Sig Compact 9mm - In 2014, Sig Sauer released their first polymer striker-fired pistols: the P320 series. Despite the continued popularity of their 220 hammer pistols, the market for polymer pistols grows every year and it's clear that the future could be tough for Sig - especially with law enforcement sales - if they don't have a Pistol released today that competes with Glock, Smith & Wesson and others.
Currently, the general reception of the P320 series is better, but it is still there, thanks to Sig's entry into the market. I first saw Sig P320s at the 2014 SHOT Show when they were first introduced, but I didn't get to shoot them until Sig sent me one of this year's new P320 subcompacts in 9mm to review. Lucky Gunner Lounge contributor Jim Grant also tested a 9mm P320, but got the smaller model. So we decided to team up for what you might call a "double blind" preliminary Sig evaluation. I haven't discussed our experiences with the P320s before making these posts, and I haven't read anyone else's reviews until they've been written twice. Some of the similar results we were able to provide suggest that we compared previous posts, but the reviews were written.

Compact pistols are the most compact handguns in the world. Big enough to hold plenty of ammo and small enough to conceal, these are the Swiss Army knives of the gun world. The main problem of most of them. Concealment is effective and the grips are large enough for smaller pistols. Since my qualms fall into two categories, I don't feel comfortable taking one. And that's why I was so excited when I saw the announcement for the SIG P320, with its portable design and large amount of functionality.

Other guns in the past have had adjustable backstraps that have delivered more than impressive results. Because they don't allow a wide range of sizes to accommodate the finite ergonomics of pistols that have grips like 2x4s. So I was very skeptical of conversion tables until I got my hands on the main one.
"This is correct!" I cried like the prince in Cinderella when he found his lost love. I can drop the mags, release the slide and fire the gun without turning the gun in my hand. Out of curiosity, I tried a small amount, which was not pleasant at all. I could easily use the P320 with the included small scope, but I found that my support hand covered up when I shot anything too small. Although only the hands presented a conflict with my memory of the first muscle.
I've put about 500 rounds through the gun now, and my opinion of shooting has changed quite a bit. At first I thought the trigger was fine, even better than a professional Glock trigger. Now, after a long hiatus, I believe it has one of the best triggers on a polymer-framed, striker-fired pistol.
Aside from the ergonomics, the shot height is higher than average to increase the feel. In the 9mm version tested, this is not a problem – especially if a shooter uses a grip that fits their hands.

The P320 Compact feels like a cross between a VP9, a Glock 19, and an M&Pc; with good qualities of all three. The only addition I would like to see available is that the frame does not include an attached dust cover or car cover for existing items. I think this gun would be easier to conceal, although a good holster can do a lot to remedy that.
Verdict at the hip: The P320 is on par with or better than the major brands of polymer-framed rifles in terms of performance, usability, and accuracy, and I would argue that the ergonomics and handling are better than most of the competition. I can't think of a gun with a better trigger, although the Century TP9SA and H&K VP9 come in a close second. I wouldn't trade my Glocks to buy the P320, but if I wasn't already into Glock pistols, the P320 would be a great choice.
Since the first P320s hit the market in mid-2014, I've read a few reviews, but had no personal interest in testing them until the subcompact model was released earlier this year. My daily carry pistol is a Smith & Wesson M&P compact, and the Sig P320 compact is very similar in size and has the same magazine capacity. It's been debated whether Smith & Wesson made the M&P compact too big or too small, but I've always found it to be the "right" size for me, so I'm curious to see how the P320 Subcompact compares.
Like the M&P9c, the P320 Subcompact has a 12-round, double-barrel magazine. I use a pinky extension on my M&P compact mags because without it my pinky doesn't fit in the grip. The grip on the Sig P320 Subcompact is longer and I have enough room to fit three fingers around the grip even without a magazine. That said, it's a very good three-finger grip, and I think many shooters are looking for an aftermarket pink extension for their P320 12-round mags to get a firmer grip.

When I first picked it up, the P320 Subcompact felt a little too heavy. The slide and frame area is longer on the hand than an M&P or Glock. It's not as noticeable on the larger P320 guns, but with the subcompact grip, the slide just isn't the same.
This may have little to do with how the gun is carried in a holster, but it has little effect on how the gun shoots. Overall, the P320 Subcompact offers less recoil than my M&P9c, which I always find comfortable for a small 9mm. Yes, the bore height is higher on the P320, but as far as I can tell, this isn't a problem for many people. The rule of thumb I think is that a low second is a sign of a rebound, but a high value is not necessarily true.
The core of the P320 series is an important part of the design. Sig's last attempt at the modular polymer pistol concept was the P250 double-action hammer action, which was aesthetically almost identical to the P320. The P250 was not exactly received enthusiastically by the market due to the long term. For many shooters, the advantage of the trigger action over a hammer-action rifle is the ability to have a solid, manageable match without the need for an external safety. The P320 trigger is a shining example of what a trigger can do when fired.

Compared to a factory Glock, M&P, or XD, the P320's trigger can best be described as "crisp" with a short stroke. The redesign is short and to the point, allowing for rapid fire performance even with a gun as small as a subcompact model. I measured a pull weight of about 7lbs on my starting scale and plan to lighten it up a bit as I get more rounds down.
Overall, I was pleased with the P320 Subcompact. In fact, if I were to start carrying tomorrow, the only thing I would change would be the sights (and the aforementioned extended magazine base). The rifle I got from Sig was equipped with SigLite night scopes, but I always wanted a different colored sight like the Trijicon HDs. Despite the new look of the P320, there is plenty of aftermarket support due to the parts it shares with the P250 pistols.
My experience with the P320 series is limited so far, but I'm happy to say that if I were starting tomorrow and wasn't too invested in the M&P platform, I'd definitely consider the subcompact P320 as a daily shoot. with several older brothers for home defense and other duties.

Although SIG models vary from unit to unit, I have seen many gun owners and dealers purchase the SIG Sauer P365 with the P320 Compact - not to be confused with the XCompact... or without the Sub-Compact.
When you consider all your options, it is possible
